Minister approves air support for firefighters in Wicklow and Dublin mountains

Minister of Defence Paul Keogh has approved a request for support for the firefighters in the Wicklow and Dublin mountains.

An air corp helicopter will help the services extinguish fires by using Bambi buckets in Bohernabreena, Hollywood, Kippure and Lacken.

Locals have praised the effort from the firefighters after flames came very close to homes and property on Tuesday night.

Crews from Blessington, Dunlavin, Baltinglass, Newbridge, Naas and Tallaght fought fires in the Wicklow and Dublin Uplands over the last number of days.

Speaking on East Coast FM’s Morning Show, Chief Fire Officer at Wicklow Fire Service Aiden Dempsey said the fires which weren’t accidental.

Gardai are carrying out an investigation as to the cause of the fires.
