Mountain rescue post video of conditions in Sally Gap and ask motorists to keep away

Following another night of heavy frost motorists are being reminded to keep away from the Sally Gap.

The Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and the Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team posted a clip on Social Media yesterday rescuing motorists from the Sally Gap.

Yesterday the teams  were tasked to assist snowbound motorists on the Sally Gap.

The volunteers were out on this operation from 02:30 until 05:30.

Gardai advise that the R115 and R759 roads which cross the Sally Gap are impassable.

The section of R115 between Glencree and Sally Gap crossroads is closed and blocked.

Conditions in the area are extremely hazardous.

Mountain rescue is not a vehicle recovery service.

They will take people to safety, but leave the vehicle behind.

The video, taken by mountain rescue team members, shows the reality of having to abandon a car on a mountain road.

The Status Yellow Snow-Ice warning remains in place until this afternoon, but it will take days for conditions to get back to normal in the uplands.
