Weekend Sports Round-up (8th-10th March 2019): Wicklow claim hurling league title!

The Wicklow senior hurlers are Division 2B National Hurling League champions following a hard-fought 1-09 to 0-08 win against Derry in Iniskeen on Sunday afternoon.

Man-of-the-match Stephen Kelly inspired Eamonn Scallan’s men to the win, with Michael Boland scoring a huge goal in the second-half.

It comes at the end of a remarkable debut league season for new manager Scallan, who will now look ahead to a Christy Ring Cup challenge in May.

Meanwhile, this weekend also saw the return of the Wicklow LGFA football leagues, as well the county’s hurling leagues

Elsewhere, Bray Wanderers maintained their 100% start to the Airtricity League First Division when they travelled to take on Galway, while the Wicklow U-18s took on Dundalk in the Girls Cup play-offs in rugby.
