Avonmore Musical Society, have been working ‘9 to 5’ over the last couple of months to bring you their 40th Anniversary Show, under the guidance of Director Stephen Acton, Choreographer Martina Lynch, Musical Director Naoimh Penston and Vocal Director Amy Penston.
9 to 5 The Musical, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s. this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.
Pushed to the boiling point, three female coworkers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can’t she?
The cast consisting of: Jennifer Lee (Violet), Gary Finegan (Franklin Hart Jr.), Denise Brennan (Judy), Eimear Harper (Doralee), Elaine Sweeney (Roz), Gary Joyce (Dick), Brian Hearty (Dwayne), John Hughes (Joe), Padraig O’Leary (Josh), Denise Connors (Missy Hart), Robert Donnelly (Tinsworthy), Tara Boukhima (Marie), Joanne Logue (Margaret), Genevieve Molloy (Kathy) and a large chorus, who have been working very hard to bring you all an amazing show.

The work that also goes on behind the scenes, in regards to lighting, sound, costumes, make-up and the legendary backstage crew has kicked into gear and really brings excitement to all on stage. The new committee, elected at the recent EGM have been working none stop to put everything into place, under the leadership of our new chairman Tomas Byrne.
