Tinahely Courthouse Arts Centre is looking forward to collaborating this year with Bray Jazz Festival, as Wicklow’s leading arts festival weekend celebrates its 20 th anniversary with a series of ‘On the Road’ concerts around the county.
The Courthouse will host a visit by French jazz quartet ‘No Tongues’ during this year’s May Bank Holiday weekend festival.
The Rennes based ensemble, who received the prestigious ‘Jazz Migration’ award year that will see them tour globally this year draw their inspiration from ancient singing traditions from around the world.
An instrumental group that features two double basses, trumpet and saxophone, the group draw their ideas and inspiration from sources as diverse as Northern European songs about ploughing, remote tribal Indian burial hymns, Inuit wedding songs Siberian psalmodies and Irish Sean Nós.
Described as one of the most exciting and ambitious new acts to come out of France’s strong jazz tradition, ‘No Tongues’ will perform Tinahely Courthouse Arts Centre on Sunday night, 5 th May, as part of a Bray Jazz Festival programme that will take also this year’s 20 th anniversary north Wicklow festival ‘On the Road’ to venues in Arklow, Blessington and Roundwood.
