Timmins welcomes progress on Community Pool for West Wicklow

Fine Gael Cllr. Edward Timmins has expressed delight following the presentation of the feasibility study for the community swimming pool in West Wicklow at yesterday’s Municipal District Meeting which took place at Wicklow County Council. There was unanimous support from local representatives for the study.

Speaking following the meeting Cllr. Timmins noted:

“I have always supported the campaign for a swimming pool in West Wicklow so I proposed at council level, that funding be made available for a feasibility study. Along with my Fine Gael colleague, Councillor Vincent Blake, I believe this issue must remain on top of the political agenda. Many residents are making unnecessary journeys to Naas and Tallaght to access a pool and this is unacceptable.”

Commenting on the next steps for the provision of a pool in West Wicklow, Cllr. Timmins stated:

“The Council will now apply for Stream One Funding from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport in order to fund the plans and drawings for the pool itself.”

Concluding Cllr. Timmins pointed out the effort from the local community in West Wicklow:

“I would like to pay tribute to all those residents and local groups who have campaigned vigorously on this issue with a very innovative campaign from organising online petitions, colouring competitions, speaking on local radio and highlighting the campaign on social media. I will be continuing to lobby on this issue on their behalf and make it a top priority”.
