Former Rathdrum coach named as part of new Wicklow women’s staff

Former Rathdrum women’s, and men’s coach Jason Moreton has been announced as the new head coach of the Wicklow senior ladies team, the club have announced.

The news comes following a terrific season for the team, which went unbeaten in a league campaign that culminated in the winning of the division two title back in March, as well as claiming the Paul Flood Plate, and getting to the final of the Metro Cup.

Moreton — who has previous experience working with Invercargill NZ Pirate’s, Southland, Rathdrum. Gorey, and Trinity — is joined on the coaching staff by Colin Younger (backs), who returns to the Wicklow women’s team.

Both men join up with the club following the departures of Paul McDevitt and Mike Farrell, both of whom have informed the club of their desire to take some time away from rugby.

Shane McDonald retains his place as the team’s forward coach, with all three men said to be “excited” by the prospect of taking the club into division one/All-Ireland League QL.
