Hollywood Walking and Trails Club

Hope you all enjoyed your walk on Tuesday, lots of positive feedback from everyone.

We had to change our original planned walk to Toor, because the annual Mass Rock Walk is on the same day. After much discussion we have decided to incorporate our walk as part of this event.  The Hollywood Mass Rock historically dates back to Cromwell’s time, document on many historic maps from that era it continues to be recognised by the Dublin diocese as a place of Pilgrimage.

So if you are an early riser, our next walk is on Sunday the 26th of May. Mass Rock Walk. This is a 9K each way walk, grading from easy to moderate from Hollywood village to Corragh. We kick off outside the Hollywood church at 7am (Yes 7am) Bishop Eamonn Walsh usually leads the way with a steady pace. Three pauses on route to gather the troops and a few words of reflection before we continue to the gate which accesses the route to the Mass Rock.

We do not actually go to the Mass Rock but stay on the road overlooking the site. Everyone is welcome to a cup of tea and brown bread along with plenty of chat ensues before the return walk at your own leisure.

Parking is available at the School, if you feel you would not be able to do this long walk, you may drive up to Corragh and park in the forest lay-bys on the road and maybe walk back to the beginning of the road to join in.  Car-pooling is recommended. No Dogs, children must be kept under strict supervision as we will be on the main road. Please wear walking shoes/boots it was noted some people had unsuitable footwear on Tuesday last. Bring water and snacks, all weather gear just in case the weather changes.

This is a wonderful morning walk, over 100 people took part last year, there is a wonderful sense of concord as one walks, chats and stops to gather one’s place and thoughts amongst the glorious smells of morning dew, wild flowers and bird song not to mention the views over the Kings River valley, the Round Hill where the Mass Rock stands and the winding road leading to Immal and over the hill into Glenmalure. I hope you will join us on Sunday the 26th for this magical experience.
