County Wicklow Older Person’s AGM

Join us for the County Wicklow Older Person’s Council AGM, taking place on the 31st May in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh. Registration followed by tea and coffee from 9.45 to 10.30am. Opening from Chairperson Mai Quaid with guess speakers are Minister Andrew Doyle, Patricia Rikkard-Clarke. Lunch and a raffle, continuing in the afternoon with music by Liam Garrett performing at the tea dance.  No admission fee.


Summer Festival

We are delighted to host this year’s Summer Festival for older people on the 25th of June at the Brockagh Resource Centre. Everyone is welcome, if you are interested in attending save the date in your diary. Walking  group in the Brockagh

On Monday mornings weekly at 10am join the Laragh walking group at the Brockagh Resource Centre for a walk around Glendalough area for approximately one hour.


Citizen’s Information Clinic                                                                                                     

The Citizens Information Centre at the Brockagh Resource Centre is open for information relating to your rights and entitlements from 10 am until noon on the first and third Tuesday of each month. No appointment is necessary for this free and confidential service.


Glendalough Car Boot Sales & Country Market

We have now moved to the 2nd Sunday of the month. Encouraging local and non-local producers of plants, vegetables, crafts etc. Our next event will be on Sun, 9th of June, open from 10am to 4pm. Bargains on practically anything from household items to garden additions, and even vintage or antique treasures. Vans must be booked in. Please pre-book indoor spaces early. Laragh and Glendalough Visitor Access Plans

Proposed plans are still available to view in the lobby of the Brockagh Resource Centre. Following last Tuesdays public meeting an extension to submit any concerns from the community may now be emailed to roadtrans@wicklowcoco.ie before 12 Noon 20th June, 2019. There are substantial changes to the re-structuring of the area and it would be in everyone’s interest to view the proposed plans before works commence.


Tae kwon-Do for Youths and Adults                                                                                     

Teens and adults will enjoy Taekwon-Do, a Korean art of self-defence. Benefits include improving confidence, respect, discipline, awareness, concentration, channeling aggression, balance, coordination, speed, reactions, fitness and health. Pilates Classes in Laragh

Pilates strengthens core muscles, improves muscle control, flexibility, strength and tone, as well as alignment and breathing. Zara Elkinson has trained and qualified through the STOTT Pilates Method of Movement. This method combines modern theories of exercise science with spinal rehabilitation, which gives a safe and effective exercise that sees results and is accessible to all. We Love Art

Art and crafts classes for children of primary school age take place on Monday afternoons.  Classes cover a wide range of art and craft techniques and processes, giving kids an outlet for creative self-expression while learning new skills.  Classes are small and places must be reserved in advance, the first class is free for new students. Adult Art Classes

Wednesday morning  drawing and painting classes are suitable for beginners as well as more experienced painters.  Students choose the medium(s) with which they wish to work, and develop their interests and personal style with Almha’s advice and guidance.  If you are thinking of getting back into your art, or trying something new to explore your creative side, now is a good time!  Classes are at 11-12.30pm in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh, commencing on September 19th. This is an ongoing free 5-week digital skills computer course and we are taking names for the next course (depending on numbers) due to commence in the Summer. It usually takes place on Fridays from 11am – 1pm. Topics covered include online banking, apps, online government services, email, shopping online, online TV players, podcasts,  photographs, security and much more. This course is for complete beginners  or someone who is rarely online and wants to up skill. You will need to bring your own laptop/tablet to the course. Morning Yoga with Louise

Louise’s yoga class will be held every Thursday from 10 to 11.15 am. This is a gently-paced class where students learn how to align, open and strengthen the body gradually while stabilizing the platforms of the feet and ankles, hips and pelvis and shoulder girdle. The class begins with general and targeted warm-up sequences followed by postures (Asanas) and Vinyasa (breath-connected) sequences before final relaxation in Savasana. Chair Yoga                                                                                                                                  

Our very popular Chair Yoga class will take place on Thursdays from 11.30 am to 12.45 pm. Chair Yoga is suitable for almost everyone and helps students find balance and calm in everyday life. The class takes students through centering and breath-work, followed by postures that let the joints move through their range of movement whilst seated or through use of the chair whilst standing. Irish Dancing Classes

Irish Dancing on Saturday mornings from  9am-10am in the Brockagh Resource Centre. AA Meetings                                                                                                                             

Closed AA Meetings are held in the Brockagh Resource Centre at 8.30 p.m. every Monday night all year round.


Elevation Dance School


Elevation School of Performing Arts performed their annual end of year show In the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on Saturday May 25th to packed out audiences for two shows. Students from the age of 3- 17 years performed dance, drama and musical theatre numbers with huge confidence and professionalism in their summer show entitled “Switch Off & Switch On”.


Teachers Katie Charles, Kerry Smith and Principal Kate O’Connor were thrilled by their students progress and audiences were also entertained by the Elevation Dance Team who performed a range of routines from their repetoire. The dance team is an intensively trained group of dancers from 8-20yrs who compete at National Level and hold many titles. On June 1st the team are hosting an incredible workshop with WestEnd star Adam Garcia and this August, the dance team will travel to Disneyland Paris to perform in their very own show on a Disney stage, a most prestigious opportunity.


Audition dates for new members of the team will be announced in September for anyone wishing to join this dedicated group, while weekly ESPA classes will return in September offering Ballet, Modern, Musical Theatre, Speech 7 Drama and Acro. Official Opening of Miner’s Way Glendasan, Glendalough and Glendalough


A new 20km way marked trail from valley Glendasan near Turlough Hill to Baravore mine site in Glenmalure is being officially opened on Friday 7th June. Robert Carter, himself a former miner in Glendalough will be present to launch the event, together with Pat Casey T.D. and Minister Andrew Doyle.

Local poet Jane Clarke has written a poem especially to celebrate the mining story. The event begins in Glendasan at 1pm and the main ceremony is in Glenmalure at 2.30pm on Friday June 7th. All members of the local communities and especially families who had someone who worked in the mines are invited to attend both events.




Glenmalure Rural Energy Group


The group will be screening the movie “Demain” on Thursday 6th June 7.30 – 9.30pm at the Brockagh Resource Centre in Laragh. “Demain” is a 2015 French documentary film directed by Cyril Dion and Melanie Laurent. Faced with a future that scientists say is a great cause for concern, the film has the distinction of not giving in to catastrophism. Optimistically, it identifies initiatives that have proven themselves in ten countries around the world: concrete examples of solutions to environmental and social challenges of the 21st Century, be it agriculture, energy, economy, education and governance. All are welcome.
