Stephen Kearon, Secretary of the Ballinaclash Community Association has hit out at Irish Water at the lack of information regarding the water situation in the area.
Mr Kearon said “Back in March Irish Water issued a boil notice for residents in Ballinaclash and Avoca, and there has been still no update on Irish Water’s web site since.
I telephoned Irish Water at the time but they were unable to say when our water supply would be back to normal, or what the cause was, I was just told to keep checking the web site.
However we find out yesterday that a test they carried out on 22nd January showed the level of Aluminium is at unsafe levels.
Not only did Irish Water fail to tell us the truth about our water, they issued a boil notice which was a complete waste of time as boiling will not reduce the level of aluminium in the water.
Irish Water have knowingly exposed the residents to unsafe water, failed to communicate the truth and failed to provide tankers with safe drinking water.”
Residents in areas of Kiltegan have had a “Do not drink” notice since December.
