Residents in Enniskerry are concerned following destruction of mature trees last weekend in the Scalp area.
Hundreds of trees approaching the village were cut down last Saturday.
No one knows who was responsible for the destruction of the trees or as to what reason they were cut down.
Local Green Party Councillor Steven Matthews said
“The butchering of trees and vegetation in the Scalp is completely unacceptable. This is the nesting season and such works are not permitted at this time of year (except for road safety) I have been in contact with the National Parks and Wildlife Service to report the issue and also the Forestry Service Inspector from Dept of Agriculture to establish if they have granted a forestry licence for this work.
If this clearance has not been granted by licence from Forestry Service I will be seeking a full investigation and prosecution of those responsible. I have confirmation that this is not public land and that this is not the work of the local authority.
If anyone can provide me with information on who owns this land can you please private message me or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you to everyone who has contacted me to make me aware of this disgraceful destruction.”
