Calls for statue in Bray for Katie

There are loud calls for a statue to be erected in Bray to honour local hero Katie Taylor.

On Saturday night Taylor became the undisputed lightweight champion of the world following the defeat of Belgian Delfine Persoon at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Bray Councillor Joe Behan said he would be proposing to erect a statue in Katie’s honour at Friday’s meeting of Wicklow County Council.

A large crowd is expected in Dublin airport on Tuesday morning when Katie returns home, where she will be welcomed by  by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr Shane Ross T.D.
