Weekend Sports Round-up (21st-23rd June): Bray make a statement in hurling championship!

Bray Emmets Club House

With two games played in the 2019 Lightning Protection Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, it is Bray Emmets who sit atop the tree following a statement win over St. Pat’s on Saturday.

Conor McNally saved two penalties as Bray condemned the Wicklow Town side to their first defeat of the season. Bray are joined at the top by Carnew, who recorded their second win from two by defeating Éire Óg on Sunday.

Both Carnew and Bray face stern tests of their ambitions next weekend, when they take on Pat’s and reigning-champions Glenealy – who kicked off their campaign with a straightforward win over Avondale – respectively.

On the boxing front, it was a largely successful weekend for the county’s fighters. Regan Buckley stole the headlines after qualifying for the quarter-finals of the European Games in Minsk. Meanwhile, Cole Byrne booked his place in the finals of the National Junior Cadets Championships in the National Stadium.

All of this, including the opening set of results from this year’s intermediate hurling championship, can be found in our weekly sports recap below.
