Aughrim Tidy Towns
Another busy week with plenty of volunteers out on Friday tidying up the area around the school, the entrance to the Sean Linehan Walk and St. Martin’s Drive. Lots of the businesses on the Main Street have been busy power washing and painting their premises.
The town is looking better every week and the hanging baskets and window boxes are really serving to enhance its natural beauty. A big thank you to Sean Byrne Taxis and Cabs, Eric Jackson, O’Neill and Flanagan, Woodfab and Wicklow Hire and Sales for their generous donations. AWD has also been in touch with a kind offer. More information to follow.
Please check our Facebook page for details later in the week. Our Facebook page currently has over 400 followers. In order to increase this number we are running a competition to win a €50 voucher for Byrne’s Londis. All you have to do is like our Aughrim Tidy Towns page, like and share the competition post and tag three friends. The winner will be announced when we reach 1000 followers.
We will meet again next Friday night at 7.00pm at the monument.
Please come out and support your community. Many hands make light work.

After all the excitement of the Aughrim under 14 All Ireland Feile winners home coming recently, last weekend saw our adult footballers take on Knockananna in the final of the Dawn Lacey cup in Aughrim.
Played before a good crowd this was a very close and intense encounter which ended in a draw at the end. After consultation with both teams it was decided to go to a penalty shoot out. This too came down to the wire and with both sides level going to the last two kicks, Brian Lynch saved the last penalty from Knockananna and Willie Kavanagh slotted home for Aughrim to give victory to the home side.
Robert Mackay presented the Dawn Lacey cup on behalf of the Lacey family to Aughrim captain Paul( Butch) Lacey. This was a very fitting occasion to mark the memory of Dawn.
Congrats to Aughrim players Darragh Owens, Conor Connolly and Ian Clancy who were part of the Wicklow under 20 team who beat Mayo last week. Well done to Aughrim club man John Keenan who played a pivotal role as referee of the recent Leinster Senior Hurling final and it augurs well for further big games to come his way. Finally its great to see exiled clubman Oisin Doyle flying the flag for Aughrim over in Vancouver Canada. Oisin was part of the Vancouver team who won both the senior hurling and senior football Western Canadian tournaments and Oisin also managed the Ladies senior Vancouver Football team who also won the Ladies Western Canadian tournament.
Well done to Oisin on his historic treble.
