In keeping with County Wicklow’s Age Friendly Strategy, four communities in West Wicklow have been awarded funding for the provision of bus shelters.
These are:
- Baltinglass Town Renewal Group
- Manor Kilbride Community Group
- Hollywood Community Forum
- Blessington and District Forum
The County Wicklow Age Friendly Strategy 2017–2022 was created by older people for older people and sets out a series of actions which they would like to see progressed for the county.
“One of those actions was to develop bus shelters and seating as required and we believe that this funding provided by the Department of Rural and Community Affairs will progress this action,” explained Richella Wood, Wicklow County Council’s Age-Friendly Liaison Officer,
She added: “A large percentage of older people rely on public transport which supports them to keep their independence.”
Details of the exact locations of the bus shelters will be agreed on, taking account of technical and engineering considerations, discussion with the relevant service providers and input from the local community groups .
