Wicklow harbour bathing ban to remain in place

Wicklow Harbour

A prohibition notice on bathing in Wicklow Harbour is to remain in place until further sampling takes place.

Wicklow County Council has consulted with the HSE about the results of samples taken on Friday (July 19th)  from Wicklow Harbour and Leitrim River following an incident of a sewage storm overflow to the river from the public sewer that coincided with heavy rainfall.

The HSE has advised that the prohibition notice should remain in place and recommended further sampling of the bathing water which has been undertaken today.

A further update will issue on Wednesday (July 24th).  Irish Water has been informed of the incident and is investigating the matter.
