If you want to learn more about our native Irish honey bee and what flowers and plants they love best, then come to our 3rd Annual Ashford Honey Festival on Saturday 21st September 2019, from 11am to 4pm.
The Heritage centre and its surrounding grounds are transformed into a hive of activity by the members of the Ashford & District Beekeepers Association who will share their knowledge of bees and pollination while you enjoy a fun filled family day out.
In the Beekeepers Hut, watch the bees close at hand with our observational hives, see a skep (traditional bee hive made of twisted straw) being made and talk to the beekeepers. And if you are not inclined to become a beekeeper yourself, but would like to learn more about the plants and flowers that will attract them in your garden, Eanna Ni Lamhna, biologist extraordinaire is our guest speaker and sure to fascinate with her knowledge of the wild nature that surrounds us.
Taste and stock up for the winter with high quality pure local Irish honey. Browse the lovely organic stalls with homemade cakes, produce, plants and bee friendly products to buy. There will be a choice of hot food and refreshments for all tastes. There are raffle prizes galore and entertainment to keep the kids happy while you browse, including face-painting, a quiz and some improvised play- acting which will include the story of bees!
