Carnew notes week September 2nd

SYMPATHY
Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Jack Kilbride, School Height, Carnew who died on Monday evening, his remains were removed to Carnew on Thursday for 12 noon mass followed by burial in Tomacork cemetery.
To the family and relatives of Fr Donal Berney, Ballyfad, Gorey and formerly of Foxcover, Monaseed who died last week and was buried on Wednesday in Monaseed.
BIRTH 
Congratulations to John and Cora Keane, Munny on the birth of their daughter.
GAA LOTTO
Carnew GAA lotto was not won, numbers were 15,17,25,28, lucky dips were Ben & Cillian Gillegan c/o Trevor. Tommy Dolan, c/o Kathleen Keogh. Lisa Kelleher, c/o Centra. Ryan Kenny, c/o Dylan Kenny. The next draw was 2nd September and the jackpot was €3,600.
KNOCK PILGRIMAGE 
The annual pilgrimage to knock from Carnew is on 28th & 29th September leaving Carnew Church at 7am, Gorey at 7.30am, if you are interested please contact Marie on 0539426646 or 0872323966.
BINGO 
Bingo will resume in St Bridget’s Hall, Carnew on Sunday 8th September at 2.30pm, the following bingo is 22nd, 6th and 20th October, all monies raised will go towards the hall renovation fund, thanks to everyone for their support to date it is greatly appreciated.
TINAHELY WALKING CLUB 
The following are the walks for the next two weeks for Tinahely Walking club on

Sep 8: Cullentragh, Lugduff & Mullacor. Level A, 17 km, 6hrs. Meet Tinahely 9.15 am or Glenmalure Hotel car park 10 am.

Sep. 15: Miners’ Way. Level B, 15 km, 4 hrs. Meet Tinahely 9.15 am or Glenmalure Hotel car park 10 am.

As usual, please remember to wear proper walking boots, pack full rain gear and bring adequate food & drink. Please check Tinahely Walking Club Facebook page for any changes to the scheduled walks.

 

CHAIR YOGA

Carnew Community Care.  8 classes from Tuesday 10th September, 10am to 11am.
This is a gentle exercise class for seniors aiming to improve flexibility, strength and mobility.  Chair yoga can also help promote balance, co-ordination and improve overall health and well-being.  €8 per class or €60 for 8. GENTLE YOGA CLASS

Carnew Community Care.  8 classes from Tuesday 10th September, 11.15amto 12.15pm.
This class comprises of gentle yoga stretching movements synchronised with the breath which promotes mindful awareness and reduces stress.  The pace is gentle and postures are modified. Gentle yoga increases flexibility and strengthens muscles and bones while improving posture. €8 per class.

ASKAMORE MASS TIMES
As and from 31stAugust/01st September mass times in Askamore will be on Sunday at 11am, in Kilrush at 6pm on Saturday evening and Sunday morning at 10am.
KILRUSH PARISH RAFFLE 
Kilrush parish are holding a parish raffle on Sunday 8th September, 1st prize €500, 2nd €150, 3rd case of wine, 4th hamper box of goodies, 5th Bean & Goose chocolate hamper, 6th bottle of brandy, 7th bottle of whiskey and lots more prizes, €5 per line or full card €50, all support welcome.
GARDEN COUNTY COUNTRY FEST 
Carnew Heritage club are busy preparing for the annual Fest from 13th -15th September with the Teenage disco and carnival on Friday 13th , gates open at 8 till midnight, admission €15.
Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th is Barry Kirwan, Lee Matthews, Derek Ryan, Take 5, Teresa and the Stars, Adrian Ryan, dancing with Declan, Sunday is the usual heritage day with vintage, David Browne’s, cars, stalls, games and much more, a weekend ticket is €30 , and can be purchased from Classic Cut, Victor Young’s, any of the Heritage committee or the GAA club. Proceeds towards Carnew Community Care, St Aidan’s Centre, Gorey and Friends of local People with MS.
COFFEE MORNING 
The annual Hospice  coffee day will be held on Thursday 19th September from 9am – 10pm in Ailish Little’s house Donishal, all welcome to come along, money raised locally stays local.
JUVENILE CLUB 
Carnew Emmets Juvenile Club would like to thank Damien Osborne & Centra, sponsors of hurling helmets and sliotars for our  newly formed Academy. On Saturday we had the launch of the Academy and we were joined in the sportsfield by Wexford hurling star Lee Chin. Our guest of honour met with our future stars and he held a training session with the Academy players and then skills sessions with our various teams and we finished up with a number of matches.
Sincere thanks to Centra for facilitating this event, to Lee for making the  event such a success and to Damien Osborne and his Staff for their generosity in providing refreshments for the players on the day and to all who supported the event and helped to make it such a success.
