Carnew notes week October 7th

Ballyellis NS – Split the Pot

Winner of “Split the Pot” on Friday 4th October  2019    is Noeleen Deegan, Brideswell –   winning €148.   We thank everyone for supporting “Split the Pot”. Envelopes can be obtained from the School or any Parent and from Ashling Walsh after Sunday  Mass in Askamore Church.. Draws will take place every Friday morning in Ballyellis School. Many thanks for your continued support.



The coffee dock in Askamore is now open on Monday – Friday morning from 9am – 1pm, coffee/tea/hot chocolate and a biscuit €2, the state of the art coffee machine takes €1 or €2 coins, self service. We have been asked to organize talks of interest for all ages, so if you have a topic you would like discussed please let us know. Why not meet your friends or family and have a cuppa and a chat .



A Christmas concert will take place in Kilrush Church on Friday 6th December with music by Des Willoughby and the Celtic Brothers, admission €20, special offer for families.



The fit for anything group is very popular with people who may have health issues or want to take gentle exercise at their own pace. If you would like to take part come along on Wednesday mornings from 11.15am – 12.15pm and stay for a cup of tea/coffee and a chat afterwards.

Pilates classes take place at 8.45am every Wednesday morning followed by fitness class at 10am, if you are interested please come along or contact Finches Fitness on 0868468165.

The Pilates classes also takes place on Friday evenings at 6.45 pm in Colaiste Bhride, Carnew followed by the fitness class at 8pm.



Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Mrs Annie Doyle Nee Brooke’s, The Yew Tree, Shillelagh who died recently and was buried in Clonegal cemetery.

To the family and relatives of Fr Barry Ffrench, Ballymoney and formerly of Rosslare and the Diocese of Westminster London who died last week, his remains were removed to Askamore on Thursday evening and mass took place at 12 noon on Friday followed by cremation.


Congratulations to the u11 boys on winning their final against Barndarrig.

To the u16 girls on winning their c champion final against An Tochar and they also won their camogie final.


Congratulations to Justin and Anne Birchill, Malton Park on the birth of their daughter.


Ashling Little and family Donishall would like to say a big Thank you to everyone who supported their coffee day recently, to all who helped  and made buns, etc a total of €783 was raised and all money raised locally stays local. Your support is greatly appreciated.


The following are the walks for the next two weeks for Tinahely Walking club on

October 13: Railway Walk/Tomnafinnoge. Level C, 10 km, 3.5 hrs. Meet Railway car park Tinahely 11 am.

October 20: To be confirmed.

As usual, please remember to wear proper walking boots, pack full rain gear and bring adequate food & drink. Please check Tinahely Walking Club Facebook page for any changes to the scheduled walks.


Reminder to please return your Christmas Lights Donation Envelope to Carnew Training & Development Centre as soon as you can.  We will appreciate any donation, however big or small. The main thing is that everyone knows that we have to raise money to light up the street for Christmas, unfortunately we are only starting out again and  we need  a lot of money to replace the old stock of lights –   bit by bit we can get there but it is going to take time and money.  Thank you for your support.

We hope you can join us for our next fundraiser which will be an “Afternoon Tea”  on 19th October from 11am to 2pm on the Main Street – watch out for posters closer to the event


Coolboy Community field will hold their AGM on Sunday 20th October at 7pm in the parish hall, all welcome.



Carnew annual ploughing match will be held on Saturday 12th October in Coolboy on lands kindly sponsored by Kevin Doran, to enter contact Kevin on 0876732437.



There will be a cookery demonstration in aid of St Aidan’s Services by Michelen star chef Derry Clarke at Seafield Hotel, Gorey on Thursday 10th October at 8pm. Derry will be joined by local head chefs Ramen Kumar of Seafield. Val Murphy on the Ashdown. William Miller of the Amber Springs. Enter a draw to sit at the testing table for the dishes cooked on the night. Raffle prizes include dinner for 2 in Derry’s L’Ecrivan Restaurant. Meal for 2 in the Rowan Tree Restaurant in the Ashdown. Dinner for 2 in the Seafield. A luxury hamper. Tickets €20 available from St Aidan’s Milllands, the “First wives club actors and actresses. Quinn property, Gorey and committee members.



The next Bingo in St Bridget’s Hall, Carnew is on Sunday 6th and 20th October, all monies raised will go towards the hall renovation fund, thanks to everyone for their support to date it is greatly appreciated.
