Parents Plus are seeking parents to take part in the pilot of their new evidence based Healthy Families Programme. The courses will run in Bray and Dun Laoghaire.
The Healthy Families course in Bray begins on the 9th of October from 9.30 – 12p.m. It will run every Wednesday morning for 8 weeks and is based in SPECS Bray, Unit 1, Brí Chualann, Bray, County Wicklow.
The course in Dun Laoghaire begins on the 8th of November from 9.30 – 12p.m., again running for 8 weeks.
This evidence based course is aimed at improving the health and well-being of children, young people and their families in local communities and nationally, and is funded by The Department of Children and Youth Affairs.
Speaking of the programme, Professor John Sharry of Parents Plus explains “Parents often receive the lion’s share of the blame for the changed lifestyles of their children, whether this is a child’s weight issues, excessive use of screens, poor sleeping or fussy eating. This is unfair and does not take into account the challenging environments we are now all living in.
The Healthy Families Programme has been developed in response to these issues and the fact that parents are seeking advice from professionals on how to navigate these difficulties in their lives.
The programme is focused on supporting parents and tapping into their core wish to bring their children up as healthy and happy.
Parents attend 8 core sessions which will help them to deal with a wide variety of issues facing families, such as screen time use, healthy eating, mental health, sleep routines and physical activity. Each session also consists of healthy habits, dealing with challenges, establishing routines and promoting mindfulness.
The feedback from parents to date has been excellent. We look forward to supporting more parents to have healthy and happy families, something that every family deserves.”
