Dream come true for new RNLI volunteer

Wicklow man Ian Heffernan has always had an ambition to be a member of the RNLI crew, this week his dream has come true.

Lifeboat volunteer Ian received his pager from Operation’s Manager Des Davitt, after completing probationary training at Wicklow RNLI Lifeboat Station.

Ian will join the crew and carry his pager at all times ready to respond at a moment’s notice when it activates.
Ian was one of two recruits from Wicklow, who recently completed a vital training module funded by Lloyd’s Register Foundation at the RNLI College in Poole.

Volunteers like Ian are regularly called away from their families, their beds and their work, any time of the day, ready to go and help others in peril at sea.
