Sinn Féin TD for Wicklow John Brady has said that emergency homeless accommodation has opened in Bray this afternoon ahead of Storm Lorenzo.
Speaking following a meeting with the Simon Community this morning, Teachta Brady said:
“The opening of emergency homeless accommodation for those that need it as Storm Lorenzo approaches is welcome.
“However, I have been informed that this homeless accommodation will only open for a couple of nights to provide shelter during the Storm.
“It is expected to close and re-open as part of the Cold Weather Initiative, at the end of the month or in early November.
“I am calling on Wicklow County Council to put the necessary funding in place to allow the Simon Community to operate this emergency accommodation throughout the Winter period rather than opening it for the duration of the storm, closing it and re-opening it.
“We have a growing housing crisis in County Wicklow and we must ensure that those who are in need of shelter at the very least can have a bed as the weather gets colder. We do need permanent emergency accommodation in Wicklow and I will continue to work towards achieving that also.
