Wicklow athlete and Wicklow hospice patron Fionnuala McCormack ran a personal best in the Chicago Marathon on Sunday.
The Wicklow woman came fifth overall in a time of 2:26:47, which sees her qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games next year.
Her new personal best seen her jump from 4th to 2nd in the all-time list of Irish marathon runners.
Friend Bill Porter said “It is fantastic news, she is the first Irish runner to qualify for Tokyo and can now concentrate on her upcoming races without the pressure of qualification. I am delighted for her and her husband Alan. Fionnuala is like a good wine, she improves with age.”
