Glenmalure Rural Energy Group (GREG) are hosting an Information evening on Thursday 14th November at 8pm in Ballinacor Community Centre, in Glenmalure.  Participants could win a FREE HOUSE ENERGY AUDIT worth €250.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

GREG in conjunction with Wicklow County Council has been successful in applying for funding through the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) – Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) programme. The funding is for the completion of an Energy Mter Plan for the Glenmalure, Ballinaclash and Greenan area and its environs.

3 Counties Energy Agency (3CEA) has been appointed by Wicklow County Council to complete the Energy Master Plan for GREG. 3CEA work closely with Wicklow County Council in managing their energy consumption, and work with community groups to improve and reduce energy usage.  Hugh McLindon, GREG Chairperson, explains that “the purpose of the Energy Master Plan is to make communities more aware of their energy consumption and to identify energy saving opportunities through a tailored work plan for the locality”.

GREG are encouraging as many people as possible to get involved and are holding an important Information evening on Thursday 14thNovember at 8pm in Ballinacor Community Centre.  Brian Dunne from GREG explains that “a presentation by 3CEA on the night will outline the project and showcase how everyone in the area can participate”.  The initial step will be a gathering of baseline data of energy usage and participants could win a FREE HOUSE ENERGY AUDIT worth €250.

GREG was set up in May 2018 and includes many hardworking volunteers who are committed to encouraging local climate actions and reducing carbon emissions in the Glenmalure area.  Anita Wheeler, local volunteer from GREG, explains “that positive proactive climate action is necessary now in our communities.  It begins in our homes and like seeds of change, spreads throughout our community, eventually making a national impact”.
