Members of the public are being warned to keep away from piers, cliffs and coastal areas over the coming days.

The coast of County Wicklow was battered on Tuesday with Bray receiving the brunt of the storm.

Sections of the North Pier in Bray have been severely damaged.

Spot flooding and fallen trees were also reported in areas of the county.

A meeting of the National Emergency Coordination Group took place today as Storm Lorenzo is expected to hit Ireland on Thursday afternoon.

Speaking at the meeting Minister Eoghan Murphy said  “The hurricane which is now crossing the Atlantic will be downgraded to a storm but still had the potential to be”ferocious and dangerous”.

The progress of Lorenzo and any potential impacts for Ireland are being closely monitored by MET Eireann.
