A defibrillator which was stolen from its casing outside the Centra supermarket on Friday night at Merrymeeting in Rathnew has been found.
The AED was found this morning by the caretaker in the school grounds opposite from where it was taken.
Extensive damage and the batteries had been taken out of the life-saving equipment which also suffered water damage.
The unit was taken to Wicklow Garda station where an extensive examination will be carried out to catch the culprit or culprits who took the unit.
A spokesperson from the Community First Responders Wicklow Town said ” We are sending the unit away to be tested but it is highly unlikely it can be repaired, we have up to 10 units in the Rathnew/Wicklow area and have never had anyone tamper with any of them.”
A defibrillator was also stolen in Drogheda, in County Louth over the weekend.
Anyone who can help the Gardai with their investigation are asked to call Wicklow Garda station at (0404) 67107
