Gardai are investigating a threat after a message was posted in a toilet at a secondary school in Arklow.
The message said there would be a “Shooting at the school tomorrow.”
It is understood a pupil brought the message to the attention of the principal, who in turn notified the Gardai.
Gardai believe the message may have been a prank, but are treating it seriously.
Nothing suspicious had been found in or around the school and gardai will maintain a presence at the school on Friday.
Gardai confirmed no on-line threats had been made to the school.
A message sent by the school to parents this evening read as follows.
“I would like to address media reports on a reported threat on a school in Arklow.
The school has received no on-line threats.
The Gardai have been contacted re:graffiti and have decided there is no credible threat to students or staff.
The school is open tomorrow.
If you have concerns contact the school in the morning.
If any student is affected by this, please get them to talk to their year head.”
It is the second such incident at a school in the south east.
Gardai were called to a secondary school in Wexford in December following a similar incident.
