Facts

            1.  In winter,  burglaries increase by 25%

          2.  Over 40% of burglaries in winter occur between 5 pm and 11 pm.

          3.  In 20% of burglaries,  entry is through an unsecured door or window.

          4.  Jewellery and cash are the most common articles stolen during burglaries.

          5.  There were over 200 cases where car keys were “fished” through the letter box.

Top 5 Tips

          1.  Secure all doors and windows.

          2.  Light up your home.  Use timer switches when out.

          3.  Store keys safely and away from windows and letter boxes.

          4.  Record details of valuables.  Don’t keep large amounts of cash at home.

          5.  Use your alarm,  even when at home.

“Experiences and Contributions of Women During the War of Independence”

Talk will be given by Dr. Mary McAuliffe,  Assistant Professor Gender Studies UCD.

Her research includes social history,  as well as war/military and oral history.

Publications include:

          Richmond Barracks 1916:  We Were There:  77 Women of the Easter Rising.

          Co-editor,  Kerry 1916: Histories and Legacies of the Easter Rising.

          Biography of Senator Kathleen Browne 1876 to 1943.

Dr. McAuliffe is Committee Member and Treasurer of Association of Professional Historians.

Hot Spot Music Club|Greystones Jazz Jam

Above the Beach House at Greystones Harbour Marina.

Come along to listen or play !!

All jazz instrumentalists and singers welcome.

Great opportunity to play with other jazz musicians.

Or to just come along and watch.

Please arrive early to sign in and ensure you get a chance to play.

To take part,  you need to be able to play at least one tune.

And then improvise over it.

Jazz standards like those from the Real Book series,  iRealPro app.

Piano,  drum kit,  mics and amps are in the venue.

However,  musicians are advised to bring their own amps and music stands.

This is a regular jazz session to develop and bring the jazz community together.

Whale Theatre|The Good Grief Project: A Love That Never Dies

In a world of strange silences and hidden anxieties, 

two bereaved parents search for a better way to grieve.

How do we grieve.  Why do we grieve.  And why are we afraid of those that do grieve ??

Jane Harris and Jimmy Edmonds’ son,  Josh,  died six years ago while travelling SE Asia.

They set off on their own road trip across the USA.

They wanted to find out why dying and bereavement are so problematic.

They find other bereaved families with stories of grief.

And they made a film about their work.

The evening gives voice to grief in ways that will move and inspire.

The film’s directors will be in attendance on the evening.

Questions and answers will follow the film’s showing.

He may be 72 years old this year,  but Rob Stong is still going strong !!

Derry native with the sensational blues/soul voice is celebrating 55 years on the road.

Not many Irish artists can claim to have continuously played for six decades !!

His son,  Andrew Strong,  became world famous,  starring in The Commitments.

Rob toured Ireland’s finest theatres last year with Don Baker,  to huge acclaim.
