BirdWatch Ireland update re Covid-19 and branch events

“In light of the rapidly evolving situation regarding the Covid-19 virus outbreak, BirdWatch Ireland Management has made the difficult decision that all BirdWatch Ireland branch events scheduled during the remainder of March must be postponed or cancelled. We believe that this is the right decision for the organisation to make in light of the current public health crisis, and we very much appreciate your cooperation.

Our staff are monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis, paying particular attention to updates and briefings from the Irish Government, the HSE and the WHO, and will update you in due course regarding branch events scheduled to take place in later months.

We have clarified that this includes OUTDOOR events so, regrettably, our Outing to Kilcoole on Saturday 21st March is CANCELLED.

Hope you get the chance to enjoy some individual birding even if it’s from the comfort of your kitchen window. It’s still cold out there so don’t forget to continue to give the birds a helping hand. Perhaps those of you are unexpectedly ‘confined to barracks’ might be able to use the opportunity to submit your Garden Bird Survey data online here.
