Carnew notes week August 3rd


Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of John Wilkinson, Main Street, Carnew who died last week and was buried on Thursday in Tomacork cemetery.


The recycling at Colaiste Bhride Carnew has resumed on Saturday mornings as the new Centre in Tinahely has opened.


Carnew GAA lotto has resumed with the jackpot at €5,000, tickets are available from the committee or local shops.


Carnew Emmets G.A.A. Hurling & Football Summer Camp with Camp Co-Oridinator Conor Daly GPO (Games Promotion Officer) will take place from Thursday the 13th to Saturday the 15th of August, 2020from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm daily – Open to all Boys and Girls (Members and Non Members) aged 6 – 13 years – €40 Per Child, €35 Second Child and €30 for Third Child and any subsequent child.

The Committee and Staff of Carnew Community Care extend sincere thanks to all who kindly supported and participated in a Fundraising event recently in aid of Carnew Community Care.  

The event was organised by Carnew Emmets GAA Club and a special thanks goes to Pádraig Doran and Michael Rock for their involvement in setting up the event.  

The fundraiser was a massive success and the generosity of the local people, businesses and local GAA Clubs is testament to the level of support which Carnew Community Care receives.

The total amount raised was an amazing €15,244.42.  Rest assured that the funds raised will be used to enable Carnew Community Care to continue to provide a wide range of services for the people in the local area.

The Confirmation ceremony for the outgoing 6th class of Scoil Aodan Naofa Carnew will take place on Sunday 23rd August at 2pm in Carnew administered by Fr Casey.

Calling all knitters, we know it’s a bit early to start talking about Christmas, but we need your help again, such was the success of our family Christmas tree last year , we plan to create another one this year and sell hats for people to place on their own trees at home in honour of all the children who have come into our lives.

The Irish Shows Association is holding a Virtual Online Show on Saturday August 22nd.

Items are still being collected for premature babies for Crumlin and The Coombe Hospitals and I’m sure when this pandemic is over they will be in very low supply , so if you would like to knit or crochet baby cardigans, hats, mits, blankets 12”x18” to wrap babies in, 20”x24” for cots, 24”x34” , large squares for the missionary priests ( they don’t have to be sewn up).

They can be dropped to the Community Care , all items would be greatly appreciated.

The following are the mass times from 29th August Saturday evenings Shilleagh 6.30pm, Carnew 7.30pm (possible changes for summer).

Sunday’s Tomacork 8.45am, Coolafancy 10am, Carnew 11.15am.


A funeral to Shilleagh on a Saturday evening before the 6.30 mass. A funeral to Carnew on a Saturday evening after the 7.30 mass.  A funeral to Tomacork and Coolafancy arrange with the priest. Sunday funeral/burial A funeral/burial A funeral mass and burial Tomacork on a Sunday- the 8.45 am mass. Coolafancy on a Sunday-the 10am mass. Carnew on a Sunday the 11.15 am mass. Shilleagh will take place on a Monday, all other funerals and burials to be arranged with the priest.

Weekday masses Coolafancy Monday’s 9.30am, Carnew Monday’s 7.30pm (+Miraculous Medal Devotions).Wednesdays 7.30pm. Shillelagh Thursday’s 9.30am. Day Centre Thursday’s 11.45am. Tomacork Friday’s 9.30am. Carnew no 10am mass on Saturdays after 22nd August (22nd is the last).

Extra masses in Lent and November for the dead to be announced.


Carnew Monday, Wednesday & Saturday at 7.10pm. Shillelagh Saturday before the 1st Sunday of the Month at 6.10pm.. Coolafancy before the 10am mass on the first Sunday of the month. Opportunities for additional confessions will be announced. 


Carnew or Tomacork on the 2nd & 4th Sunday’s of the month at 12 noon. Shillelagh on Saturdays at 5.30pm. Coolafancy at 3pm on 1st & 3rd Saturday’s of the month.

Months mind and anniversary masses will be shared in all churches.

Station of the cross there will be one in each church are during lent.

May and October devotions in Carnew only. First Friday calls Shillelagh/Coolafancy-Thursday before 1st Friday. Carnew/ Tomacork 1st Friday. 

Holy Week and Christmas will be announced. Fr Casey will have Tuesday’s off when the above programme starts 29/30th August .
