Death

The death took place of Elizabeth (Liz) Neville ,(nee Parke) Rathmore West, Eadestown, Naas, Co. Kildare.   Liz is mourned by her husband  Michael and sons  Eamonn and Evan. Liz will be dearly missed by her family, brothers John and Eamonn, sisters Teresa, Angela and Muriel, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, Aunt Mary Parke, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives and a wide circle of friends. Funeral took place in Eadestown on Wednesday September 16th 2020.

May Liz Rest in Peace.

Trip to Knock

A two night trip to Knock will take place on October 25th to 27th 2020. Leaving Baltinglass at 8am on Sunday 25th returning Tuesday evening. Cost €280 full board. To book a place contact Josie on 0872543235.

Dunlavin Library

Dunlavin Branch Library has returned to pre-lockdown hours. Maura Greene, the librarian is delighted to note that there has been some slight adjustment to the opening times which will make the library more family friendly. 

The library will now be open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2- 4pm, making it  easier for parents to borrow and return materials when they are collecting children from school.

Dunlavin Library has an amazing collection of children’s picture books that are suitable for all ages as well as all the best chapter books for the older child. Membership is entirely free, and fines are no longer charged on overdue items.  Please be reassured that all precautions have been taken to ensure the library is functioning within Covid guidelines. 

All items being returned are quarantined for a period of 72 hours when checked in. The opening hours are as follows – Tuesday 6-8pm, Wednesday 2- 4pm and 6-8 pm, Friday – 10.30- 1 pm and 2 – 4 pm and Saturday 11-1 pm.

Death

The death has occurred of Sean (John) Walsh (Crehelp, Dunlavin, Co.Wicklow). Died peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his brother Dennis. Deeply regretted by his wife Mary, loving children Caroline, Gillian, Sandra, Sean Jnr, Dawn, Naomi and Darren, grandchildren and sisters Mary, Ann, Margaret, son in law Damien and extended family and friends. Sean’s funeral took place in Hollywood on Sunday September 20th. May Sean rest in peace.

Drive- In Bingo

Dunlavin GAA and Western Gaels will host a drive-in Bingo on September 27th at 2pm in Blessington Mart (Eircode W91Y667) Gates open at 12noon. €3,000 in prizes.

ALONE – manage a national support line and additional supports for older people who may have concerns or are facing difficulties relating to the outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Professional staff are available to answer queries and give advice and reassurance where necessary. The support line is open seven days a week, 8.00am – 8.00pm, by calling 0818 222 024.

Dunlavin AFC – Want to join a fun club playing football in the Kildare and District League? The club is looking for boys and girls Under 10, 12 and 14 age groups. Centenaries

Local man Chris Lawlor is researching the 1900-25 period in the Dunlavin area for a new book. If anyone has memorabilia (photos, medals, documents etc.) that they would like included in the book, Chris can photograph them for illustrations, which will be credited to the owners.

Anything relating to village life, the Women’s Suffrage movement, the Labour movement, Home Rule, the Volunteers, Cumann na mBan, World War One, the 1916 Rising, the 1918 general election, local elections, the War of Independence and the Civil War would be very welcome, as would photos taken in later life of people who lived through the time.

Any local stories about the period would also be of interest, and duly credited. Chris will not share any of this material with third parties, nor will he publish it in the book without the consent of the owners. Chris may be emailed at lawlorcm@hotmail.com or telephoned on 0879321737.

New Venture

Congratulations to Niamh Deegan on her new adventure Value Vault which opened at the weekend. The shop is situated next door to Centra and has all the little cheap ad cheerful accessories we all need. Niamh has a photocopying service. Best of luck and please support local.

Mobile Recycling has recommenced.  Blessington first Saturday ,outside Secondary School.(Naas Road) 10-12.

Dunlavin 2nd Saturday outside Church of Ireland 10-12.

Hollywood 3rd Saturday outside the National school 10-12.

 GAA Grounds

Dunlavin GAA grounds have now reopened the gates to allow people use the walkway around the pitch. No dogs allowed.

The bottle banks are also re-opened.

Little Brew Cafe

Best wishes to the owners of the new Little Brew Cafe which opened its doors on Saturday last. Lots of nice treats available, so pop in and support local business. Lovely selection of cheeses and chutneys available. Open8am to 3pm Wednesday to Sunday . Closed Monday and Tuesday.

Coombe Hat Appeal

Calling all knitters! We know it is a bit early to start talking about Christmas, but we need your help. Such was the success of our Family Christmas Tree last year, we plan to create another tree this year AND sell hats for people to place on their own trees at home in honour of all of the children who have come into our lives.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels continue to deliver meals on Wednesdays in the area. If anyone would like a hot dinner delivered to their home please telephone 0879693960.

St. Nicholas of Myra:

 ALL Masses (including morning Masses) are now resuming  The Parish Centre will be open  every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings   if you would like to get in contact please call 045 401871 . Normal Mass times at the weekend Saturday 8pm, Sunday 10am and 12 noon. Family Carers Ireland 

Family  Carers Ireland are seeking volunteers in Dunlavin and the surrounding area to give 1 o 2 hours a week to visit an elderly person in their own home who are experiencing loneliness and isolation. The Irish Cancer Society – is looking for volunteers to drive patients to and from their chemotherapy treatments in all public hospitals nationwide.
