Library Service

The pandemic restrictions have not prevented the Wicklow County Council library service from seeking safe ways of continuing to serve the community, especially families concerned about their children’s reading progress.

They are making two proven online supports available to parents who want to help their child improve their reading, writing, spelling and comprehension. These supports are TTRS or Touch, Type, Read and Spell and  Lexia. TTRS is a multi-sensory typing programme that teaches typing, reading and spelling. Lexia is a reading programme that creates a blended learning programme personalised to individual student requirements

Both programmes are recommended by educational psychologists as valued resources for children who may be struggling with literacy.

These resources are available through County Wicklow schools at no cost and also accessible directly from the library to children who have not been given access through school.  Please email mbirchal@wicklowcoco.ie  for further information.

Dunlavin GAA news

Many thanks for volunteering to become a team leader for the upcoming walkathon. Our goal is to raise at least €24 k, which will enable us to complete the much-needed surfacing works to the entrance of the football field. The surfacing works will include an asphalt finished roadway complete with drainage and speed ramps along with a pedestrian footpath the length of the laneway which will link the public footpath on the road with the GAA grounds.

These works will provide safe access to the grounds for all the community as Dunlavin GAA strives to provide its community with a facility that everyone can enjoy.

To help you with your task of organising your team please see the information pack attached and please if you have any questions or concerns just give me a call on 085 127 4139.

Some of the ways that you may decide to raise funds could be through small fundraising such as raffles, car washes, bake sales, or small electronic donations from family and friends both near and far, among many other ways.

We appreciate that the target of one thousand euro per team is a big task, but if we all raise our target we can complete the works in the coming weeks in time for Summer.

Credit Union News

Baltinglass Credit Union wishes to thank their members for tuning in to their very first Virtual AGM which was held using the Zoom platform on Wednesday the 24th February @ 7pm.  It was a great success.  Members could vote where necessary, submit questions & propose/second the reports all by keeping safe in the comfort of their own homes.

In December 2020, the government published the Finance (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2020, which enables Credit Unions to convene wholly or partially their AGMs virtually, so Baltinglass Credit Union took on the challenge of hosting it virtually, and without fault.

Some of the items mentioned at the AGM was the recent launch of  ‘Sign For Your Loan At Home’.  This is a great addition to the services of Baltinglass Credit Union.   Members can complete the full loan process (apply, submit documentation, sigh forms and have the funds sent directly to their bank account) all while staying safe at home. This is not a limited service but an additional one that we hope Members will use and benefit from.

If you need to get in touch, please do call 059 64 81071 or email: info@baltinglasscu.ie.
