Village Clean Up & Planting
Thank you to everyone who joined us last Saturday for our first clean up of 2021 and especially our youngest helpers Peadar and Alice. We planted fruit and other native trees, did a general tidy up and rubbish pickup.
We would like to create another space in the village to encourage wildlife. We are looking for bird houses(nest boxes), bird feeders, trellis, native plants and wildflower seeds that attract insects and pollinators to create this space.
Free Online Exercise Classes
Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Sports Partnership is delighted to partner up with Siel Bleu to roll out 2 different FREE 8 week online exercise programmes for the over 55s. These classes are suitable for all fitness levels and can be done in the comfort of your own home.
The first class is a Strength & Balance class on Tuesdays starting on the 23rd of Feb until 11th May @ 12:30. This class is designed to help people build strength in areas to improve balance issues. Using a wide range of functional exercises we will aim to teach people how to exercise at their own level and finding the balance of a safe and effective exercise. Registration is essential and booking is through the following eventbrite link https://strengthbalanceclasses.eventbrite.ie
The second class is a Mobility & Stretch class on Wednesdays starting the 24th of Feb until 12th May @ 11:00am. This class is designed to take people through a full body mobility routine from a seated or standing position. The exercises executed throughout this programme will help to improve mobility and flexibility. Age & Opportunity
FitLine Age & Opportunity are delighted to announce that they are expanding their FitLine initiative in 2021 to reach more older adults right across the country.
They are looking for more volunteer mentors, individuals or groups, to join our FitLine team, to help them deliver this very worthwhile initiative.
FitLine, one of their Active programme initiatives, is a volunteer peer led telephone-based motivation line which encourages older adults to introduce physical activity into their daily lives.
FitLine is designed to help people who want to feel a bit healthier but just don’t have the motivation, confidence or information on where and how to take that first step.
FitLine mentor volunteers are required to provide encouragement and ideas about how older adults can do simple physical activities as part of their day to day routine to suit their own lifestyle, and to provide information about clubs, groups and facilities in their own communities.
Download and fill in the FitLine mentor volunteer application form at https://ageandopportunity.ie/about-age-and-opportunity/get-involved/
