National Heritage Week 2021
Local Dúchas Folklore
In the 1930s, a large collection of folklore and local tradition was compiled by primary school students from all over Ireland. This collection included oral history, folktales and legends. The school children gathered this information from their parents, relatives and neighbours.
For Heritage Week 2021, Dunlavin Library has compiled the entire ‘Dunlavin Schools’ collection and it will be on display during Library opening hours from Saturday the 14th of August.
Gems included relate to local cures ‘Keoghs blood’, a stolen stained glass window, a stolen bell, The Market House and much much more.
It’s really worth a look; so if you’re interested in reading contributions from recognisable Dunlavin names from the 30s, do drop in and have a look.
