Cllr Neary welcomes increase in €500 for Tidy Towns across Greystones District

Social Democrats Cllr for Greystones District Jodie Neary put forward a request to increase funding to Tidy Towns across Greystones District at a District Council meeting this week.

“I’m delighted that we are able to give an extra €500 to Tidy Towns in Delgany, Kilcoole and Newcastle from our Council Discretionary Fund. We had some funding left over and agreed on how to spend it during the meeting.

“I felt it was important that the tremendous work carried out by Tidy Towns across the area was recognised by us with an increase of funding to help them continue to carry out their work. The extra €500 is a small token of this work which has no doubt increased due to Covid and increased population in the area.

“The promotion of an outdoor summer by the Government while helped people to navigate the 5k restrictions, meant more rubbish, more dog fouling and with more housing developments there has been significant overall wear and tear of our local facilities.

“Tidy Towns across the district have done trojan work on the same amount of funding year on year, so I’m delighted that Councillors agreed to my proposal to increase funding this year and I hope that we will be able to continue to support Tidy Towns in future” concludes Cllr Neary.
