Cohen Unlimited are a group of Irish Wicklow musicians and singers who have come together again this year to put on a full Leonard Cohen tribute show following a sellout concert in September 2017 to mark the first birthday since passing.
The show was a massive success and the group members were continuously being asked when it would be happening again so here we are……… The new show, ‘Thanks for the Dance’, A tribute to Leonard Cohen, will include songs stories and visual displays.
The band is made up of: Robert Doyle, (lead vocalist), Fergal Cantebury (Musical Director and Guitarist), Keith Pogue (Drums) Louise Jameson O’ Flaherty (Vocals), Ben Dunne (Bass Guitarist) and Jhil Quinn (Vocalist)
Robert Doyle is the lead vocalist, and has performed for over 40 years in and around Wicklow and in more recent years, Spain. Robert is a lifelong fan of Cohen’s music and poetry having met him way back in 1979 and being enthralled by how humble and genuine Cohen was , along with being an incredible writer.
Born in Wicklow Town Robert has been a photographer for many years travelling all around the world as a journalistic photographer and was one of the official photographers at his last gig in what was the Point Theatre, Dublin.
Fergal Cantebury from Wicklow Town is the musical director of the band and is a renowned and highly respected guitarist having played with some of Irelands top musicians and is one of the most respected guitar tutors on the east coast of Ireland, as well as being a superb keyboard player and top sound and recording engineer.
Keith Pogue has been playing drums for over 30 years. He has been involved in many bands over the years which have given him the opportunity to play pop, rock blues, jazz, musicals and as well as in major events. He spends his time now between teaching drums in the Wicklow area and playing live gigs.
Keith has lived in Wicklow for more than 30 years.
Ben Dunne has been playing bass in all genres (rock, pop, country, folk, jazz) since his teens, in Ireland and UK. Recently branching into recording and producing for other artists as well as releasing his own compositions.
Louise Jameson O’Flaherty, Vocals, comes from a Wicklow family steeped in music history and has been singing and playing guitar since childhood and has been continuously performing over the years and now performs regularly with her husband in a 2 piece band.
Jhil Quinn has toured extensively over many years as a solo performer and as part of groups and most recently was part of the incredible “ladies in the Blues” who performed in many countries and also headlined the Derry Jazz festival 2019, the Cork Jazz festival, and also performed at Glastonbury.
Jhil now lives in Wicklow .
There will be a Raffle for a limited edition framed print on Leonard Cohen on both nights, taken by Robert, with all the proceeds going to RNLI, Wicklow, which is something fans will want to get their hands on.
