Annacurra notes week November 22nd

Annacurra

Mass of the Angels

Mass at 6:30 pm on Saturday 27th November in St. Brigid’s Church, Annacurra is a “Mass of the Angels”. Remembering all babies lost before or around the time of birth or a child who died young, mass is offered for their parents and families. All are welcome.

GAA

On Sunday last there was a minute silence for Johnny O’Neill, Richie O’Neill and Fitch Moules. The occasion was the junior County final. On a big day for the club a sobering reminder of a very sad couple of weeks.

Johnny O’Neil passed away two weeks ago. Johnny’s sons Seán and Colm played for Annacurra.

We also said goodbye to Fitch Moules. Fitch was the leading referee of his time refereeing the All Ireland finals of 1962 and 1963. He brought great honour to our club.

This week we lost Richie O’Neill many years before his time to a long illness. Richie was a life long member of the club, playing senior championship on many occasions. He would have been very proud of his son Shane’s performance on Sunday in the junior final.

Everyone in the club sends their sincere sympathy to the families. May they rest in peace.

On Sunday the juniors took to the field in Aughrim against Avoca. This was a team with a mixture of youth and experience. There was a stiff breeze and we played with it in the first half. We got off to a flying start and by half time we had a very big lead and we went on to have a comfortable victory.

It was a great achievement and capped a great year for this bunch of lads. Congratulations to everyone involved.
