Our club has gone from strength to strength and we look forward to building on the previous work put in and ensure lots more success in the years to come!   We had a very important motion put through this year at our AGM, our club curator, Mr Jimmy Whittle was nominated to join our honorary president list, and there was nobody in the room who disagreed.  Jimmy, the memory man, is a hive of knowledge on all things Dunlavin Gaa and anything he doesn’t know about the club, isn’t worth knowing!  Jimmy received a well deserved award at our dinner dance in 2020 for his long term and ongoing dedication and commitment to the club, he works tirelessly behind the scenes to push the success of our club and we are truly blessed to have him as part of our club and it is a huge honour for us to name him as an honorary president of Dunlavin Gaa.

Westside Community Game

Westside Community Games is in danger of disappearing if we cannot form a committee within the next week.

Throughout the years, hundreds of children from the area have taken part, many even doing us proud at national finals. Children from local areas have had great fun and made new friends over the years and it would be a huge loss to the area if we cannot find the support to keep it going!

What can you do to help?

We need a committee to be formed to be registered as a local group. This involves meetings 4-5 evenings a year, helping to run 3-4 events a year, being at county finals to help support our athletes and attending the area meetings every few months. Realistically, many hands make light work and we will all work together, play to our strengths and keep this fantastic resource for the local children running!

In order to continue we need

1) A chairperson to keep a general eye on things, to post updates on our Facebook page and to notify local schools of upcoming events

2) A secretary to keep brief minutes of meetings, receive the correspondence from the national and area teams and to input children’s details onto the database for insurance purposes.

3) A treasurer to keep track of the money coming in and out of the group. No fundraising is needed as part of this role, it’s simply to keep track of the small entry fees charged and to update our annual account statement.

4) A child protection officer to make sure all child protection procedures are followed and Garda vetting of every volunteer is up to date.
