Greystones you are …

A collection of poems about Greystones and surrounding area,  written by its residents.

Greystones you are …  was compiled by poet Frances Browner.

The anthology features over 50 poems.

Some of these poems were included in Poets’ Wall 2020 and Poetry Trail 2021.

There are also contributions from local schools and nurseries.

Books are priced at €10.

Proceeds will go to Greystones Cancer Support.

Luisne Centre for Well Being Will Open Again !!

Luisne will be opening at Egan Business Centre,  Upper Dargle Road,  Bray,  Co. Wicklow

Luisne promotes a holistic and integral approach to health and wellness.

It does this on a personal,  community and planetary level.

This famous well being centre was previously located in Kilcoole.

Now back in action,  the Centre is conveniently located in Bray,  Exit 6 from M11.

The Centre is easily accessed from Greystones and there is plenty of free parking.

Lots of well being classes and sessions being scheduled from 31 January.

In the meantime join Luisne for its ONLINE Christmas Family Concert.

17 December 2021,  7.30 pm to 8.30 pm.

Great night of entertainment for young and old.

Story telling with Mrs. Claus,  Christmas music from around Scott Maher.

The Moving Skirts Dancing Group with dancers from around the world.

Wicklow Garda Youth Awards

Nominations now being accepted for deserving young people from around the county.

Awards will be considered for young people who make their communities a better place to live.

Group awards for two or more young people who have contributed positively to their community.

Special Achievement Awards will be for those who have overcome great difficulties.

A Community Safety Award will be presented for making their community a safer place.

Anyone,  including a family member,  can nominated someone for an award.

To be considered eligible,  the young person must be:

  • Aged between 13 and 21.
  • Permanently living in Co. Wicklow.

Attendance of the Public and Media at remote meetings.

Procedures to be observed.

  1. Members of the public and media may be present at a remote meeting of Greystones Municipal District
  1. Attendees must comply with Greystones Municipal District Standing Orders and Supplementary Standing Orders to Regulate Remote Meetings.
  1. Members of the media and public shall give prior notice of a request to join an online meeting of Greystones Municipal District.
  1. Requests must be emailed to Greystonesmd@wicklowcoco.ie no later than 12 noon on the day of the meeting.   A name and email address is required.
  1. The link to the meeting is for the recipient only and must not be forwarded on to any other person(s).
  1. Attendees must maintain silence and observe any directions given by the Cathaoirleach or by an official of the Council.  Microphones must be kept on mute at all times.
  1. Members of the public and the media do not have the right to speak, any interruptions or endeavours to interrupt will result in the remote connection being terminated.
  1. No recording of the meeting and its proceedings by any person in attendance (elected members, media or members of the public) is permitted.

Irish Heart Foundation Act FAST Campaign

The Irish Heart Foundation is running a campaign to raise awareness of signs of stroke.

It also wants to highlight the importance of getting to hospital as soon as possible.

Here is what to look out for:

Face

Has the person’s face fallen on one side ??

Can they smile ??

Arms

Can the person raise their arms and keep them there ??

Speech

Is the person’s speech slurred ??

Time

Time to call 112 or 999 is you see any single one of these signs.

Community Activities Fund Now Open For Applications

Special fund of €282,686 to support community groups impacted by COVID-19 now open.

This fund is for small scale capital projects.

These projects should comply with the objectives of WCC Local Economic and Community Plan.

There are two parts to the funding scheme:  over €1,000 and under €1,000.

Greystones Active Retirement Association (GARA)

Wonderful group for the over 55s in the Greystones and surrounding areas.

Lots going on,  there is something for everyone at GARA !!

Ongoing activities include:

  • Art                         Mondays         2.30 pm to  4.30 pm.
  • Short Mat Bowling     Tuesdays       10.45 am to 12.45 pm.
  • Bingo                     Thursdays        2.30 pm to  4.30 pm.

Art, Short Mat Bowling and Bingo are taking a Christmas break.

  • Art restarts on Monday,  17 January.
  • Bingo restarts on Tuesday,  18 January.
  • Bowls restarts on Thursday,  20 January.

Recent activities this Autumn included:

Introduction to Creative Writing            Floral Arranging       

Cake Decoration.                              Growing Your Own Herbs

Art Appreciation                               Knitting.

Coffee Mornings will resume in the New Year. 

All activities take place in Kilian House Family Centre,  beside Holy Rosary Church.

Special reminder that usual restrictions apply.

No parking on double yellow lines or in loading zones.
