The third edition of EcoTrail Wicklow, Ireland’s largest trail running event, will take place on Saturday September 24th.
EcoTrail Wicklow is part of the eco-responsible international circuit of EcoTrail races in 13 destinations around the world with more planned. The core principle behind EcoTrail is to organise world-class trail running events while raising awareness of the importance of protecting natural environments.
EcoTrail Wicklow offers the option of four distances (19k, 30k, 46k or 80k) following trails that run through some of Wicklow’s most scenic locations including Bray Seafront, Bray Head, Killruddery, the Great Sugarloaf, Powerscourt Waterfall, Djouce and the Wicklow Way, Lough Tay and Roundwood Reservoir.
In 2021 EcoTrail Wicklow was sold out with more than 1,500 participants registered and with entries selling quickly for the 2022 edition, early booking is advised.
Starting and finishing on Bray Promenade, the 2021 event was a great success when runners of all abilities crossed the finish line after achieving a great challenge around the spectacular Wicklow Mountains. EcoTrail Wicklow welcomed some of Ireland´s best international mountain runners alongside runners of all levels and ages and nationalities.
EcoTrail Wicklow is looking forward to hopefully attracting more international trail runners in 2022 to participate and holiday in Wicklow and Ireland.
The Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Shay Cullen, said: “EcoTrail Wicklow is a fantastic promotional tool that showcases the amazing playground that is Wicklow. Through the network of EcoTrail races around Europe and beyond, and with the support of Failte Ireland and Tourism Ireland, the international reach of our event is tremendous. Wicklow is very much ready and looking forward to welcoming trail runners and outdoor enthusiasts from around the world”.
