An Garda Síochána will override the traffic signals at Clermont and Aldi in Rathnew this evening in what they say is an effort to prevent traffic buildup.
From 4:30pm this evening until 6:30pm gardaí will be present at the junction, giving priority to road users coming to and from the M11.
Gardaí have said the suppliers of the traffic lights will also be in attendance to attempt to correct the sequencing issues, with engineers from Wicklow County Council present.
The move comes following discussions with the council and complaints from members of the public over the current traffic light sequence, which appears to be favouring the minor road rather than the main road.
“We would ask for your care and attention in the area while personnel are in the road,” said a Garda spokesperson.
Gardaí from Wicklow and engineers from Wicklow County Council have been in touch “regularly” with the company who supplied the lights over its current sequence.
“After discussions, an undertaking has been given to replace the “board” responsible for the erratic timings currently being experienced,” said An Garda Síochána in Wicklow.
They also urged motorists to exercise caution at the junction in the meantime.
