Drew Harris to remain Garda Commissioner following two-year extension approval

The current Commissioner of An Garda Síochána has been granted a two-year extension in his role by the Cabinet.

Drew Harris will now remain as Garda Commissioner until 2025 after proposals brought by the Minister for Justice this morning were approved.

Mr Harris took office in 2018, replacing Dónall Ó Cualáin who acted in the role for one year following the retirement of former Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan.

Drew Harris was previously Deputy Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
