Following defeat in their opening game against Longford last week , Wicklow ladies footballers will feel they let their second home game in the Lidl Ladies National League against Wexford slip.
Leighton Glynn’s charges had plenty of possession but the gale force wind blowing towards the town end in Aughrim made passing very difficult.
Wicklow had the advantage of wind in the first half but had to come from behind to take a 3 points to 2 lead into the halftime break.
As the second half started the rain stopped but a bitter wind was playing havoc for both sides, Blessington’s Anna Vass added a point to put Wicklow 4-2 up, marie Kealy added a second point before the second half water break which saw Wicklow take a 3 point lead.
After the water break visitors began to grow in confidence and put over their first score of the second half before Wexford midfielder Ciara Banville drove a unstoppable shot to the roof of the Wicklow net giving keeper Jackie Kinch no chance.
Wexford now tasted blood and came at Wicklow in waves, but were met by a determined defence who stood strong, the hosts were awarded a number of frees in the closing stages but the passing was wayward and misplaced.
In the dying seconds Marie Kealy was awarded a close in free, and sent it over the bar to share the spoils.
Final score Wicklow 0-6 Wexford 1-3.
