Legal requirement to wear masks in most settings to end

The government has signed off on plans to end the majority of the remaining Covid-19 restrictions from next week.

The legal requirement to wear a face covering in retail settings, schools and public transport will end on 28 February.

However, they will still be required in healthcare settings, while commuters will be encouraged to wear a mask when travelling on public transport services.

It comes following advice from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) to government advising the use of face masks should become voluntarily.

NPHET will also been wound-up, with the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan continuing to monitor the Covid-19 situation in Ireland.
