A review on the wearing of face masks as part of public health measures will take place this week.
Senior civil servants will meet today on the topic, before members of the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) carry out their review on Thursday.
While the majority of public health restrictions that were introduced to curb the spread of Covid-19 were removed last month, the wearing of masks remained.
Masks must still be worn in schools and public spaces such as retail, libraries, cinemas, theatres, museums and businesses providing services such as salons and hairdressers.
They’re still required on public transport services at all times.
It’s understood NPHET may recommend removing the requirement for masks to be worn in schools.
