St. Patrick’s GAA Greenhill Road will receive a €150,000 grant from the Government to develop their pitch at their new location.
The funding, which is part of the Government’s Sports Capital and Equipment Programme, will improve the club’s facilities.
St. Patrick’s GAA said they were “absolutely delighted for its members and volunteers” as currently they only have one pitch and a small training area, which is not adequate for the needs of their 40 teams.
The lack of pitch space, they said, was “having a detrimental impact on juvenile participation across the board in Ladies Football, Camogie, Hurling and Football”.
Thanking local public representatives, the club said “at a time when it is difficult for a volunteer organisation such as St. Patrick’s, this successful application gives us all a new lease of Life!”
They added that the funding would allow Phase 1 of their plan to have an additional pitch available for the 2024 season on the Greenhill Road site.
The Sports Capital and Equipment Programme (SCEP) is the primary vehicle for government support for the development of sports and recreation facilities and the purchase of non-personal sports equipment throughout the country.
Over 13,000 projects have now benefited from sports capital funding since 1998, bringing the total allocations in that time to over €1.1 billion.
