Wicklow Tennis Club and SSE Renewables team up to deliver enhanced youth facilities

There was plenty to celebrate at Wicklow Tennis Club recently as restrictions lifted and the club’s newly enhanced outdoor social area was officially unveiled.

Funded under the SSE Renewables Arklow Bank Wind Park Phase 2 Sponsorship Fund, the club’s new outdoor table tennis table and interactive big screen are now permanently up and running.

Funding was granted during lockdown and club officials worked hard to ensure the new facilities were installed safely and ready for use by club members and guests once society reopened fully.

Ella Tindale, Junior Captain of Wicklow Tennis Club said: ‘We are delighted to have these new facilities at our thriving club. It was essential that we expanded our outdoor amenities to ensure that members could mix safely outside of the clubhouse. For our youth members, in particular it was vital that we were able to provide some social events and there has been such interest in the table tennis set up that we are hoping to expand this also.’

Deborah Coleman, SSE Renewables said: ‘It is wonderful to see clubs like Wicklow Tennis Club back up and running again, and we at SSE Renewables are delighted to support their endeavours, particularly as younger members benefit greatly from this social area.’

The reopening signals the start of a very busy season ahead for Wicklow Tennis Club with lots of activities for club members already scheduled.

At SSE Renewables, the Arklow Bank Wind Park Phase 2 project team is continuing work to deliver Ireland’s first offshore wind farm of scale, off the coast of Arklow which when operational will support 80 jobs and power over half a million homes with green energy.
