Wicklow home makes final of RTÉ’s Home of the Year

A Co Wicklow home has made the final of RTÉ One programme Home of the Year.

During last night’s instalment of the show, judges Hugh, Amanda and Sara visited the stunning 150-year-old farmhouse that has been given a new lease of life.

Owned by couple Kate and Shane Byrne, the property has been in Shane’s family for decades.

When they moved in, in 2018, they knocked through all the smaller rooms and added an extension to create an open plan living space with lots of natural light.

Kate and Shane love the sense of history in their home and that their son is the 4th generation of Byrne to grow up there and that, in time, it’ll be a place for his own family.

The property was a hit with the judges, with Sara scoring it a nine out of ten.

“This home is a great example of a successful marriage between old and new,” said Hugh as he also scored it a nine.

At the end of the episode, Amanda’s score of the “uplifting home” was revealed to be an eight, giving Kate and Shane’s home a 26 out of 30 and earning it a place in the final.

The Home of the Year final will take place in April where the overall winner will be announced.
