Bodywhys Fundraising Day at Wicklow Strength and Fitness

Wicklow Strength and Fitness (WSF) are teaming up with Bodywhys, the national eating disorder charity, on May 14th to run an awareness and fundraising day for the charity.

BodyWhys work to support individuals with eating disorders and advocate for correct provision of care in Ireland. They also provide an incredible support service for families and friends of those suffering with an eating disorder and work to educate and inform the national conversation on eating disorders. The team at WSF are organising a full day of activities with something for everyone.

In the morning the WSF members are completing the infamous CrossFit workout ‘Murph’. Murph is a renowned workout in the world of CrossFit and consists of 1 mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 air squats and another mile run at the end.

It is the afternoon event that organisers Oisín Nolan and Liam O’Toole are really trying to promote locally.

WSF have partnered with Bodywhys to bring the first ever educational seminar on eating disorders in the training environment to coaches of everyday athletes. Ellen Jennings and Barry Murphy who lead the communications and research teams in Bodywhys are giving a 3 hour interactive seminar suitable for coaches, students or anyone interested learning more about eating disorders, low energy availability in sports and what supports are available to coaches. Oisín highlighted the importance of the seminar saying “coach education about eating disorders doesn’t exist so we’re delighted to be hosting Ellen and Barry and to be raising awareness about eating disorders and the support available through Bodywhys”. Both Liam and Oisín emphasised that the seminar is suitable for coaches of all sports and they hope to get in touch with all clubs in the town. Tickets cost €10 and are available online with the link below.

To round off the day and to raise funds for Bodywhys, WSF is being transformed to hold its first ever pub quiz. The event runs from 7:30pm and tables of six are available to book online or by dropping into the gym on the South Quay.
