Dunlavin AFC
Our u15s entertained Kilcullen AFC in Dunlavin today in the last 16 of the Shield Cup. This was the 3rd meeting between these teams this season.
Kilcullen dominated possession throughout the game and created numerous chances but could not beat Henry Walshe in the goals who was like a wall. He kept Dunlavin in the game which finished 0-0 on full time.
Penalties were to follow with Kilcullen winning the toss to take the first penalty and scored it.
Henry Walshe was the first penalty taker for Dunlavin and slotted a cool finish low to the keepers right side. Walshe set the tone for the penalties for Dunlavin. He saved a Kilcullen kick and Dunlavin missed a kick in the first round of 5 to send it to sudden death.
Kilcullen scored first, then Dunlavin scored to level it up. Walshe then saved Kilcullen’s next kick to leave the deciding penalty to Charlie Dunne. As cool as a cucumber Dunne hit the keeper’s top right bins to send Dunlavin into the next round, the quarter final. Final score 6-5 to Dunlavin.
Best for Dunlavin on the day was Denver Nolan playing at 10 working tirelessly and Charlie Dunne at left full who played out of his skin. Man of the match was without doubt was Henry Walshe, what a performance, Walshe had a solid game in goals, scored Dunlavin’s first penalty and saved Kilcullen’s last penalty.
